Government bodies
The Ministry of Economic Development is responsible for the administration and development of the Gas Act, Regulations and New Zealand Gas Codes of Practice relating to safety, and quality and measurement of gas. They do this through the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, of which the Energy Safety Service (ESS) is a division. The ESS is responsible for the promotion of safety in the supply and use of electricity and fuel gases in New Zealand, and monitor and encourage compliance with the laws relating to energy safety.
