Afterburner
Afterburners are used to destroy toxins and remove odours from flue gases. Not only is this process much cleaner for the environment, but the wasted heat can be funnelled through a heat exchanger and re-used for heating. Afterburners are used by a variety of businesses, such as chemical and meat processing plants, printers, painters and coffee-roasters.
Selection and design
As afterburners are used to destroy toxins from flue gases, businesses that use processes which create these toxins will require their installation. Though afterburners are expensive to install, this is often essential in complying with the requirements of the Resource Management Act 1991. The size of the system will depend on its application.
Installation/location
Afterburners are fitted to ovens and machinery and are generally installed outside. If installed at the design stage for a new facility, installation costs for piping, electrical work and ventilation are substantially reduced. Connections are required to a gas supply, an exhaust flue and an electrical switchboard.
